A daughter of an adoptee, and drawn to foster care and hurting children, I became a a single foster parent to 4 year old Miguel during medical school, adopting him on his 5th birthday to save him from spending the rest of his childhood going from home to home. I knew I wasn't the best choice for him being a single Mom in medical school, but I felt I was his best chance.Yet he brought with him all the trauma he had experienced from the moment he was born. Equipped only with love and hope, it was no match for trauma that had become his only way of knowing how to survive.Miguel ultimately challenged every aspect of my life and eventually to a complete health crash. While not in my life anymore, he was my initiation to understanding that our body can be holding trauma and we not even know it and that love will never be enough.First working with hundreds of adopted children around the world through the nonprofit I started, I came to deeply understand attachment pain and how to help these children love and trust again. Then through myself and my patients, I came to work with adults who have had decades of bodies weighed down with trauma burden. My purpose is to share what I have learned with you - to help you make sense of the journey, to not get lost, and help you along the way to create the life, relationships and health you want faster.
